Our third residential building in Denmark skillfully bridges the past: By combining recycled building materials with modern elements the building in the Frederiksberg municipality blends harmoniously into the historic cityscape.
Copenhagen is not only one of the cities with the highest quality of life but also impresses with its exceptional buildings. Innovative architecture, traditional design and sustainable building materials often blend seamlessly – as is the case with our real estate project at Kong Georgs Vej 57-61. Within the planning area were two villas as well as various annexes to existing buildings from the early 20th century. At number 57 once stood the Skandinavisk Vaffelfabrik, run by the Jørgensen family for decades and one of the last remaining food companies in the area. This historic environment was essential to the planning of the new residential complex.
The project was presented in 2015 and the development of the local plan took some time before the building permit was finally granted in 2022. The architecture of the new building is inspired by the classic brick houses of Frederiksberg with their striking structures, reliefs, and mansard roofs. As special design element a filigree waffle pattern relief for the brick facades was chosen, reminiscent of the old waffle factory and creating an interplay of light and shadow. Recycled clinker bricks were used for this, most of which came from the demolished buildings on the site. The waffle pattern is also reflected in the paving and the crossed railings at the balconies and a waffle-shaped concrete monolith at the entrance to the site also recalls the town's rich history.
After two years of construction the property was taken over already fully leased – the 37 residential units were leased out in a record time of just two months. The fact that this real estate project represents a highlight in our international portfolio is further confirmed by the nomination for the Frederiksberg Municipality's 2025 Construction Award which we are very proud of. The award recognizes high-quality and aesthetically pleasing shop and building facades of exceptional quality.
